Your next read! The Butcher By Celia Aaron

Each time I read a book by Celia Aaron I find myself sucked into the story and deeply vested into the characters. In her book Blackwood, I fell for Blackwood. Then I read her Acquisition series. Though Sinclair was an awful character in the beginning, he grew on me.

Synopsis:
I had her once. Or at least I thought I did. But that was a long time ago. Before prison. Before I became the Butcher. Seeing her now shouldn’t make me feel anything. It’s been too long. She forgot about me as soon as I was sent away. But all those truths can’t break the connection that links me to my Angel. No matter how hard I try, I’m still drawn to her, damned to want her even though she’s promised to another man. Being assigned to serve as her bodyguard is a torture so ingenious that I have to respect it. If I don’t deliver her to the altar, my life is forfeit to the Genoa family. But if I do, losing her again may kill me surer than a hitman’s bullet.

And now, releasing August 28th, we have The Butcher. Like with her books before, Celia manages to weave a tale that hits you directly in the chest.

Angel and David grow up in very similar circumstances. Drawn to each other in ways neither of them can explain, in each other they find a bit of happiness.

As a foster kid, David struggles to look after his brother Peter, while doing some odd jobs for a  the Genoa family, aka the mob. Things go sideways when David and Peter’s foster dad take things a little too far with Peter and David is sent to prison at the tender age of sixteen.

Angel is an unwanted child living with a father who beats her, until sickness makes him weak. Planning to leave him, and trying not to get tangled with David, Angel’s plans are thwarted when her father sells her to a vile man named Hector.

At first I think the worst when Hector takes possession of Angel, but it was nothing like what Ms. Aaron had planned for her. Hector degrades Angel by making her call him “Daddy” and dress in outfits better suited for a seven year old or a porn star. As her situation gets worse, thanks to Hector’s plans for her, she crosses paths once again (after five years) with David.

The passion, and the hurt I found in this book tugged at my very soul. Even a person who has never been in foster care or grew up with a hateful parent like Angel’s, can relate to her. We can all feel the hurt she feels, especially when she reunites with David.

With twists and danger lurking at every corner this book offers excitement, and romance. It is the kind of book one needs to read after a long day in the office or needing to escape the everyday joys of motherhood. As with pervious books, and characters I fell hard for Angel and David. Their story made me hungry for more. In short I could not put this book down, no matter how much work I had looming over me and deadlines pressing.

I feel as though Celia has not only out done herself but she has also just given me my new favorite book.

Author’s Note: This is the third novel in the Dark Protector world, David Raven’s story, and a standalone.

In short do yourself a favor, get to know Celia Aaron and be sure to check out The Butcher.
